Welcome to the Northern California Chapter of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).
President's Message

Healthcare is undergoing transformation — in technology, in care delivery and in how healthcare is being reimbursed. These are interesting times to be in the field either as a provider, payer or consumer. The face of healthcare will be changing in the years to come as we work to provide higher quality and outcomes while reining in the costs.
The focus of HIMSS at the National and Chapter levels is moving with these changes – continuing to focus on Healthcare Information Technology (HIT) with sharper emphasis on outcomes, linking the technology to positive change in impacting how healthcare gets delivered and measuring the efficacy of that delivery. The Northern California Chapter strives to bring together thought leaders and our membership to engage in a dialogue that is critical to the success of this transformation. The Board of Directors is working diligently on planning events that provide perspective on various aspects of this transformation. We are interested in your feedback as we enter our planning phase for the programs for the next fiscal year. You may provide comments on evaluation forms at our events for by sending a message directly to me at president@nocalhimss.org. I look forward to hearing from you.
The Chapter is also focusing on education, a vital component in developing a succession model. The Chapter has continuously supported the HIMSS Foundation with scholarships annually for the past five years. This year, the Chapter has developed a grant program to provide stipends for internships for students in HIT. Those grants will be issued to students this spring/summer. Preparing students to assume roles in HIT is vital to continuing the deployment of electronic health/medical records and health information exchanges. Our mission is to assist that endeavor through our grants program.
Finally, a lot of the success of the Chapter is because of the support of our sponsors and you, the members. The Board of Directors is thankful for your support, which has truly made a difference in how the Chapter can continue to honor the mission and provide value to our members and the community.
