Inaugural “Women in Healthcare IT” Regional Conference is Rousing Success!

Whether a front-line system user, a healthcare information technology (HIT) manager or senior executive, the collective voices of more than 200 attendees were heard at the first-ever HIMSS Western Chapter’s Regional Conference for Women in Healthcare IT held Jan. 20th in San Francisco.  This rare opportunity to “give back” by sharing valuable knowledge, networking and exploring new career roles was herald a rousing success. Congratulations to the HIMSS chapters who organized the event from Arizona, Northern California, Southern California and Washington!

Leaders from a cross-section of the HIIT industry were inspired and gained powerful insights from their peers about improving the business and delivery of care through the use of advanced technologies. The roster of acclaimed speakers, including keynote speaker Connie Mariano, M.D., aka “The White House Doctor,” physician to three U.S. Presidents and a retired Navy Rear Admiral, shared a wealth of knowledge on the issues facing healthcare, the importance of a professional corporate image and the possibilities of hiring a life coach. Dr. Mariano along with other speakers shared their personal career path stories of challenges and triumph and the need to keep a keen eye out to anticipate business opportunities.

As healthcare professionals deal head on with an industry in crisis, events such as the “Women in Healthcare IT”  Regional Conference offer an important opportunity to collaborate with others to draw on collective intelligence to increase one’s confidence and value to the HIT industry.
